Minneriya National Park is one of Sri Lanka’s most famous wildlife sanctuaries, located in the North Central Province. It is best known for the spectacular gathering of wild elephants, often called “The Gathering”, where hundreds of elephants congregate around the Minneriya Tank during the dry seaso
14:00 PM – you will be picked up from your hotel and driven to Minneriya National Park. Pickup is available from centrally located hotels in Habarana, Dambulla, or Sigiriya.
14:30 PM – Minneriya National Park covers about 21,000 acres (8,889 hectares). It is part of Sri Lanka’s dry zone, where typical plant and animal species thrive, and elephants are especially abundant. The park is best known for the spectacular gathering of wild elephants, often called “The Gathering”, when hundreds of elephants congregate around the Minneriya Tank during the dry season.
Highlights of the park’s wildlife include sloth bears, sambar deer, and macaques. Its wetlands are home to reptiles such as crocodiles and a variety of amphibians.
